eMarketer, you may be surprised with the answer. E-mail is not dead, but rather is the foremost communication tool, with 87% of Internet users checking personal e-mail daily. This is the same percentage as in 2007 – so the cry that e-mail has gone by the wayside, couldn’t be further from the truth. It is believed in part, that e-mail is alive and well because people now can check their e-mail via their mobile phone. In fact, nearly two-thirds of mobile phone users check their e-mail daily, with 31% checking up to four times daily!
But perhaps the most interesting statistic released is the shift in what e-mails users are spending time reading. There was a 5% drop in users reading family and friend e-mails and an increase in commercial e-mail readership.
So, to all our clients out there ... keep those e-newsletters and e-mail coming!

That is very surprising and unexpected. I would've thought social media had passed email with the rise of the facebook vs. google wars. Granted I do have email sent to my phone, I find it more of an annoyance than a true aid. While I check email more frequently I feel that social media is less intrusive and allows me to reach the information I want, without all of the junk.
